Winchburgh Waste Water Treatment Plant
Design Engine Structures
Winchburgh, located five miles west of Edinburgh Airport, houses the current wastewater treatment facility southeast of the town. The existing facility is designed for a population of 3,800. With plans for housing developments in the Winchburgh area, the population is expected to reach 16,389 by 2032. To manage this growth, Scottish Water began constructing a new treatment plant. Construction commenced in July 2021 under the direction of ESD, a partnership between MWH Treatment, Binnies, and Galliford Try, Scottish Water’s Non-Infrastructure Alliance Partner.
Design Engine was approached by Archibald McAulay & Son Ltd to design a stand alone stair case situated between two of the new waste treatment silos.
The new waste water treatment development is located outside and subject to the effects of corrosion. Due to this, every element of the new staircase/ platform was hot dip galvanized.
