Rose Arch & Peacock
Emma Storhard Sculpture LTD
The client required a focal point in their grounds, a Rose Arch which would frame the view down the garden towards the valley as well as looking back up towards the house.
As the arch is large and must withstand the weight of the Peacock the best solution was to fabricate a mild steel framework in three sections before being handwoven in mild steel wire. The Peacock completed in wire too.
Using mild steel wire, the artist can create detail and a very free and rhythmical flow to their work, very much like drawing. They chose to hot-dip galvanize once completed, as this fuses the wire together and protects from rusting over the years. The sculpture and arch are permanent. Finally, aesthetically over time the contrast between the chalky grey of the galv. and the lushness of the planting creates a gentle grounded focal point in the grounds.
